New 3D Mario might be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Doug Bowser tells fans to ‘Stay Tuned’

Nintendo is hinting that a new 3D Mario game may be just around the corner, but we may have to wait a little longer.

President of Nintendo of America Doug Bowser, hinted that a new 3D Super Mario could be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. During a recent interview with CNN, on the question of whether a new 3D Mario is in the works, he told everyone to—

“Stay Tuned”

“You know, we have a long, long catalog, and a long list of (intellectual property) that I’m sure will make its way to the platform.” Adds Bowser.

And yes, his last name really is Bowser. This is not satire. We had to fight the urge not to headline this with “Bowser says Mario is coming.”

During the first Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2. Nintendo revealed a huge lineup of launch titles, including the new highly anticipated Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, a handful of third-party titles, as well as upgraded versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The latter two will also finally feature achievements.

But one thing that was notably absent was the announcement for a new 3D Super Mario Game the likes of the classic Super Mario 64. With the latest one being Super Mario Odyssey for the first Nintendo Switch that came out in 2017, now more than 7 years ago.

The lack of an announcement left a lot of people disappointed, which when paired with the pricing contoversies has caused the hype for the new console to dwindle a little.

While Mario Kart games are always fun, the gameplay can end up feeling rather repetitive after some time, and fans miss the feeling of running around and stomping on Goombas on their way to save Princess Peach from (not Doug) Bowser.

While this recent comment from the Nintendo of America President gives us a sense of hope. We’re probably still at least a year away from an actual release of a new 3D Mario game.
