Game awards 2025, game of the year goes to Clair Obscure: Expedition 33
Perhaps surprising no one at all after winning so many awards throughout the night, not to mention the acclaim it has received since its release took the world by surprise in late april this year, Clair Obscur has claimed the final, most prestigious award of the night by claiming Game of the Year.
Facing genuinely significant competition from such titles as Hades 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Hollow Knight silksong, three sequels to widely beloved titles, and entries from Juggernaut creators such as Donkey Kong Bonanza, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, it can be said that few years have so many genuinely remarkable titles entering the medium so close together.
But on the whole, the writer at least, believes that this is a well deserved win by a game with fantastically done art direction, a genuinely moving and thoughtful narrative paired with a stirring soundtrack, and a fun spin on the time honored turn-based RPG gameplay.
With their seventh and final trophy of the night, Sandfall Interactive will be going home tonight with quite the collection.
